School Sports

School sports allow kids to be able to compete against other schools and to take part in teamwork. They also give kids a chance to get involved, to feel like they belong, and to take part in physical exercise. Most schools have a variety of sports that kids can choose to be a part of. This typically begins in junior high. Up to that point, most communities have recreational sports that kids can be involved with.

School sports encourage kids to keep up on their school work too. This is because most schools won’t allow any student to participate if they have D’s or F’s. The specifics of those rules vary so you will have to check with a specific school to find out what the rules are.

School sports also require each student to have an annual physical. This verifies their doctor has deemed them fit enough to take part in such sports. The ranking of any school can determine who they will play against. For example some small schools only play 6 man or 8 man football instead of 11 man. The divisions are determined to help ensure a high level of competition with school sports.

The school sports have seasons, with football usually kicking off the beginning of the year. This runs from August in most schools until about late October or early November. Football seems to be the all American school sports, with the highest number of spectators. During this same period of time, many female students also take part in volleyball. It has a shorter season than football.

Basketball for both boys and girls is very common in early January until about March. This is an indoor sport so it works well during the colder period of time. Wrestling is a male sport that begins around March and lasts until the end of the school year. Some schools also have gymnastics available for girls to take part in during that period of time.

Golf is a spring time sport that many schools offer as well. There are both boys and girls teams. This type of sport is one that requires more patience and skill than many people think. While the teams are often small they can still be fun and offer some great opportunities for those that wish to participate.

Cheerleading is also a sport, but many schools don’t see it that way. The girls involved don’t get the same recognition as a sports team. Yet they put in plenty of practice and hard work. With the increased number of cheerleading competitions though they are starting to be seen as more than just a club.

School sports can be fun and exciting for students to take part in. There are often playoffs and awards for the top players at the end of each season. A love for such sports can also result in students receiving scholarships to play various sports at different colleges. This is a great way to continue getting fit but also to pay the high cost of going to school these days.
